June + Deron

LOCATION

Lake Placid is in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains — not far from the family cabin where June's family spent summers, and her Dad spent summers before that — beginning in 1936. Lake Placid was also the home of the 1980 Olympics, and has all kinds of sites that are worth a look.

Little known fact: June’s brother Glenn was the Official Ice Skate Sharpener of the 1980 Olympics.

The wedding and all the surrounding activities will take place at the beautiful Lake Placid Lodge, which channels the look and feel of the Adirondack “Great Camps” and updates it with hand-crafted, artisan furniture. It has many beautiful fireplaces and wonderful nooks to explore. The lodge address and phone number is:

ATTIRE

Please no ties! This is an unconventional wedding, and we’re hoping you’ll wear something creatively casual or Lodge-Fabulous. Be creative. Be colorful. Wear something that makes you smile. Wear whatever “Lodge Fabulous” means to you. Think about great textures: Velvet. Silk. Tweed. Corduroy. Think about great colors: Brilliant jewel tones. Bright primaries. Winter blues and greens. Maybe it’s a vintage dress. Maybe it’s a blazer in a brilliant shade of turquoise. If there’s something you’ve been saving for the “right occasion” — this might be it.

Traditionally, wedding guests worry about out-shining the bride or standing out in photos. But we want all our guests to look and feel amazing! Wear whatever appeals to you.

GIFTS

Please no gifts! Seriously. Really. Truly. No gifts. It’s hard enough and expensive enough for you to come all the way to the middle of the mountains in winter to spend a weekend with us. If you have words or wisdom for us — we will gratefully receive them. But other than that and your presence, we honestly don’t want any other gift.

lodging

The Lake Placid Lodge has a very limited number of rooms, which have been reserved. But we've reserved a block of additional rooms at the beautiful Mirror Lake Inn & Resort, just a 9-minute drive away. (Details below on how to book at our special rate).

Lake Placid and the neighboring towns of Mirror Lake and Keene are filled with charming hotels, B&Bs, cabins and rental homes (including a number of Airbnbs). Several great options are below. Feel free to find one that's right for you!

Mirror lake inn resort & spa (group rate)

77 Mirror Lake Drive (518) 302-3032

We've reserved a block of rooms at this beautiful, historic lakeside hotel with classic Adirondack decor (Think cozy fireplaces; over-stuffed leather chairs; lots of wood, stone and exposed beams). It has all kinds of luxuries — an indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, afternoon tea and cookies. And it's just 9 minutes from the Lake Placid Lodge and all the wedding festivities. We've secured a great rate of $229/room per night.  Please note there is a 2-night minimum stay. To book, call our account executive Linda Pascarelli directly at (518) 302-3032 by February 2nd.

high peaks resort — lakehouse

1 Mirror Lake Drive (518) 523-4422

High Peaks Lakehouse is another fun option. It's a renovated 1960s hotel, with a cool, retro design, mid-century modern furniture, a pool table, a cool bar and more. It's a 9-minute drive from the wedding.

Van hoevenberg lodge & cabins

4529 Cascade road (518) 523 9572

We've stayed at these wonderful, tiny little cabins on our ice climbing trips. It's a bit farther afield — a 20-minute drive to the Lake Placid Lodge — but they're so cozy and tiny and perfect. Also: more economical than many other options nearby.

quality inn of Lake placid

2125 Saranac Avenue (518) 523-9555

This is the closest hotel to the wedding and one of the most economical. It has a heated pool and hot tub. Simple and good!  They have limited availability but are worth checking.

Travel to lake placid

Lake Placid is located 300 miles north of New York City, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. It's not the easiest place on earth to get to, but it's also not the hardest.  We've researched a number of your best options, with details below.

ARRIVING BY AIR

The nearest airport to Lake Placid is Saranac Lake Airport (SLK) — sometimes called Adirondack regional Airport. It's serviced by just one airline (Cape Air) — details below. It's just a 20-minute drive from the lodge. Hotel shuttles and taxis can easily take you straight to your hotel without renting a car.

Possible airports include:

Saranac Lake Airport (SLK) — 20-min drive

Albany Airport (ALB) — 2-hr drive

Burlington Airport (BLV) — 2-hr drive

Montreal Airport (YUL) — 2-1/2 hour drive

If you're coming from afar, we recommend flying through Boston, which has a direct flight to SLK on Cape Air. Cape Air has partnerships with five airlines, making through-travel fairly simple. These airlines  — Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue and United — allow you to check luggage all the way through to SLK. There are no weight restrictions on luggage.

Cape Air has three round trip flights to Saranac Lake Airport each day from Boston Logan Airport:

For Wed 2/28, Thu 3/1 & Fri 3/2

Cape Air’s daily arriving flights from Boston Logan (BOS) to Saranac Lake (SLK) .

9:10 BOS – 10:49 SLK

1:05 BOS – 2:44 SLK

5:41 BOS – 7:20 SLK

For Sun 3/4

Cape Air’s daily return flights from Saranac Lake (SLK) to Boston Logan (BOS).

7:35 SLK — 9AM BOS

11:45 SLK — 1:15 BOS

3:40 SLK — 5:10 BOS

Travel sites don't always list all the available flights on Cape Air. To book these flights, we recommend using the following sites, and also calling the airlines directly if you run into snags. Travel sites do not seem to list all the available flights:

American: Use aa.com (or call)

Delta: Use Expedia.comOrbitz.com or Travelocity.com

JetBlue: Use jetblue.com or call

United: Use United.com or Call

If you are arriving by plane, there are a few transportation options. Lake Placid Lodge (518-523-2700) has a couple of cars and if you call them upon arrive, subject to availability, they'll come and pick you up.  The best taxi service is Adirondack Express (518-524-6963).  You should also be able to get an Uber, though we are told there is some scarcity of drivers.

ARRIVING BY train

We love the train! If you do too, consider taking Amtrak from New York City to Westport, New York. The train ride is just under 6 hours, and Westport is a 45-min drive from Lake Placid Lodge.

There’s one train daily in the winter months.

The Adirondack

Departs 8:15 — Penn Station

Arrives 2:02 — Westport, NY

If you are arriving by train, we will have a shuttle service at the Westport station on Thursday and Friday to pickup guests.  The driver's name is Bob Clifford (518-651-6258).  He'll wait 30 minutes from the time the train arrives, which should be enough time for everyone to make their way to the shuttle.  If there is over-flow, Bob will help call taxis and/or the lodge for additional transportation.

ARRIVING BY car

We also love to drive! And it’s a beautiful drive to Lake Placid, mostly on well-maintained, multi-lane highways.

Here are the estimated driving times:

Boston: 4-5 hours.

New York City: 5 hours

Philadelphia: 6 hours
